Default 2004 Mustang

I saw a sketch of the 2004 Mustang in one of the Auto mags this weekend. I'm not a mustang fan at all, but i gotta say the retro 60s cues look really sharp.

Hmmm... there seem to be a couple different sketches going around... one is the beautiful modernized retro-look which I assume is the one you saw (from Automobile mag?), and the other one I guess shows up in Motor Trend which looks ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhh... I'm not sure about that one... it looks wedgy like the entry level Mercedes.

Anyone have a pic of the blue sketch from Automobile mag?

Here's the one that I'm not so hot about:

I saw the "retro" look of the Mustang and it's alright. I'm not a huge fan of the retro look only because I think the auto companies should work alittle better at designing some really great cars rather than making lude copies.

I checked for the picture of the "retro" look Mustang and I was unsuccessful! Automobilemag.com needs a desperate update! They have upcoming news on 2000 models! OMG!!! It's nearly time for the '03's to be out!

That the blue pic is it! Thanks for posting it.

I'm kind of miffed that designs are referred to as "retro". In my opinion, a design is a design, and if it's a good one, it should stick around and be improved over time.

I like the style of Mustangs, but hate it's silly pansy noise and reliability. I play Gran Turismo 2 with a modified Mustang. When you drive it, you can hear some strange noise. I just hate it! I'd rather go for the s2k!

Hehe.. your statement is proof that people buy or don't buy cars because of games like Gran Turismo!

As a registered member of the auto press, I can say definitively that the cars shown are NOT the "2004 Mustang".

They are total fabrications, just concepts drawn by an artist associated with the magazine. The proportions have no relation to the platform we all know it will emply.

It's an easy extrapolation from the "Ford Legends" news that the next Mustang will emply some retro themes.... but for most of us we will have to await the inevitable spy pics. And, I would guess those are at least a year away. It is well known that the (extended) 2003 model year will be the last for this current-platform "tired old mare"... unless there are further financial disasters in the company.

Although I do have one bet... the recent pic of a Lincoln LS with an enormous hood scoop is in my bet an engineering mule for the next Mustang.

Very cool, jwfisher -- any other rumors you'd care to put to rest?
