My experiences with Volvo's and Saabs for that matter, are that they are very problem prone. As a dealer once told Elizabeth and I, you may get a good one, may get a bad one....what confidence that evokes in the product.
Then again, many years ago C&D ran a short column story about a man in Sweden or Switzerland that had a 1960 or 70-something Volvo that at that time had the world's highest recorded car mileage on it: 1.8+ million miles. If memory serves, the car's engine had only been rebuilt twice, and that it was apparently running great still.
I like it a lot. Then again, I really like the S40 (wagon, especially!) and S60. This one is more mature, cleaner, and fairly tasteful. Wonder how much it'll be? Personally, I think a GS430 is a lot nicer inside and out and an RL is probably going to be cheaper, so tough decision.
Check out the extra room behind the center stack (last picture) - I love that feature, though I don't know how often it'd be used. Kind of breaks up the dash and gives it a waterfall effect.

I really dig this car. Love the safety and the seats. Outside styling reminds me of the E36 3 series (which was my favorite of all time).
Can't wait for specs and lower end models to look similar to this!
or a 3 series
Nothing special. They need to focus on quality. People used to buy volvo's when they were FUGLY boxes because they were safe and durable. Nowadays, Volvo's are not any safer(if fact maybe less safe) than other premium japanese and Euro sedans, and they are also much less reliable than in their hayday.
Volvo needs to go back to their basics.
