350Z Vs Mustang GT
I've driven both and I was shocked at how much I liked the Mustang GT. The 350Z felt a bit more like a sportscar and the quality may have seemed a little better. Still, six months down the road when the GT's are more common and discounts aren't so hard to get the Mustang will be an even better deal. I like cars without rear seats so that's a plus for the Z but the GT is darned fast and fun in it's own right. The Mustang also drives much better than the old ones with a much better shifter.
I would have to drive them both again before I could decide. I like the Z but the new Mustang GT was a much better driving car than I expected.
How many of you have actually driven both? BTW, the 6cyl 05 Mustang I had for a rental was just an ok car. It was nothing special.

i can't believe this is even a question. yeah mustangs look decent now, but wait until everyone and their aunt has one. mustangs ALWAYS get played out. maybe it's because i live in NC, but i saw the last body style mustang EVERYWHERE, and soon i'll be seeing the new mustang everywhere. anyone paying out the nose for these things when they first came out is going to be kicking themselves.
i would never buy a base model GT. i would get a 350z way before i'd get a gt. now make the choice between a 350z and the 2004 cobra making 400 supercharged hp, and it would be a much tougher choice. those engines have enormous power potential (and people are ditching the IRS for a traditional solid rear axle, because that's what a mustang was built for, drag racing, not road course duty.)
i'd rather have a mustang with a solid rear axle. the car's gonna handle like crap anyway, you might as well get an axle that's built for accelerating in a straight line like the rest of the car.

It's quite obvious he's talking about the Ford Mustang Cobra.
Who goes shopping for Shelby Cobra's?

At least from what I've read, the next Mustang from the SVT could carry a Shelby badge. See the sidebar on page #59 of April 2005 R&T.
All that understeer can EASILY be corrected with alot of power.
i have not had a chance to drive the new mustang, i know it's the first time they've used a new chassis for the car in over 30 years, so there's no telling how it will handle. i don't think giving that category to the 350z based on suspension setup alone is that much of a stretch.
if i was going to get a mustang i'd wait until the cobra came out. it will have to be nasty to out do the 04 cobra.

I know for sure that the 350z will get ya a lot more pssy
However, them being popular doesn't mean they're not good. I like both cars, but I'd choose the Z b/c I can take it to the track if I have some time to waste. The Mustang seems to be limited to drag and street, but is a good vehicle to bring around friends (which I hate doing).
A Mustang is a terrible vehicle for giving friends' rides. The back seat is not roomy, and the leg room is non-existent behind a 6' driver. It works in a pinch, and you'll likely have to tell people they can't ride with you more often than you'd think, but a party barge it ain't, and anyone who thinks it is has never had the "pleasure" of riding back there.
