If you were handed $35k, which car would you choose? I'll be making this decision next year. It'll be daily driven and possibly brought to the track (infrequently). What I have on my mind are the following:

S2000
WRX STI

If I consider the IS350, I'd like to consider the 330 also. This would also lead to considering a used E46 M3.

I would like to see what you guys have to say. Thanks.
I think youd be lucky to get into a 325i or IS250 with $35000. Truthfully, if you are looking in this class, get a fully loaded TL for $35000.

If you want balls out fun get the Sti.

If you can show me where to get a low miles '04 for $20K, I'll buy it.

You just can't do it. It's hard to get a low miles '03 for under $20K. It can be done, just not very often or very easily (and definitely only from private individuals, not from a dealer).

Personally, at that price, I'd get a two year old C5 Z06 if you are going to track it occasionally.

Alternatively, I'd get an '03 S2000 and a used 2005 Mazda3 wagon as a daily driver/bad weather car. Heck - for $15K, you can get a 2002/2003 Volvo S60 as a daily driver/bad weather car.

IMO the C5 Z06 is the best car you can buy for $30K.

If you want new car IMO EVO/STi are both great as is the S2000

IS350/330i both are GREAT but def in another price range (closer to low-$40s typical).

If it was me, I'd look at the 07 Legacy Spec.B which (IMO) will be a heck of a DD. I know it's not as trick as the STi but the 06 Spec.B is similar to the S2000 for acceleration and the 07 will have the STi 6-speed tranny so it should be able to accept more power quite easily.

he will be purchasing next year

I've seen '04s going for 25k
hell '06 for 29k + ttl

so I don't see how in a year an '04 with less than 25k miles can't be had for the low $20's.

You said "get an '04 S with loowwwwwwwwwww miles and save the rest of the 15k or so. "

That means $20K, not low $20's.

I agree - low twenties ($22K-$24K) is doable, but $20K is not.

I'd put it into some stocks for a month and make it $40,000 instead of $35,000. Buy an S or evo and mod the hell out of it
I'd like to know where you can make 14% return per month (168% a year).
heck, give me 4% return per month.
