QUOTE:

I am Curt W and I own the company that produces the carbon wheels....they only weight 8 lbs and are constructed with a carbon fiber barrel with Mag. Spokes. We so far in the last 2 days have sold over 40 sets. and are at least a 6 week wait. The wheels are full D.O.T. and are rated @ 5000Lbs. each. some have said something about failer and I will be the first to say that if the go it will be nasty, however if the go the wheels hit ssomething that hard the car would be totaled from the impact. These wheels have proven to be twice as strong as the Z06 wheels and impact rating exceeded the testing capability of the testing lab. we sent the lab 100 wheels of which ZERO failed any of the test. We also sent 100 Z06 wheels to have the same test ran they had a 63% failure rating. The testing of the carbon wheels went beyond all of the DOT testing for a alloy wheel.... alloy wheels are required to pass 2.5 million cycles, Our wheels were required to pass 5 million cycles due to the new technology.

i was not aware DOT even approved wheels.

(hint, DOT means shit)

now, are the 3C certified? Fat chance. THAT is probably the best guarantee of quality and driving manner.

metal is malleable. carbon fiber just breaks. no thanks.

I think CF flexes quite a bit before it breaks. And metals are generally maleable but not necessarily wheel alloys. A buddy who races with super-light aluminum wheels (8 lb Keizer's) has several that were mangled during tire changes. They bend if you breathe too hard on 'em.

CF wheels definitely get my interest. My big Z06 wheels naturally weigh a lot (18+ lb) and plenty of guys spend at least half this much on aftermarket wheels.

I first saw this wheel on the NSXPrime forum few months ago. Few members there put in order for it. I think the price has come down some from the initial $1,500 quote. Sounded like they were flexible to other wheel center design at no extra cost provided the design is not too complicated.

Above article quotes $1,500/piece. Last I heard 3 months ago its price has come down closer to $1,200.

You might as well just get some MF-10s for that price...
