Default According to Mitsubishi...

I was watching tv and a Mitsubishi commercial comes on. They cut to a scene showing the Eclipse and the text at the top says "The best selling Japanese sports car over the past 20 years" . I guess it's just cool to blatantly lie to unassuming consumers.

First of all, what kind of BS are they feeding people to even consider the Eclipse a sports car?

Secondly. Even if it were a sports car, wouldn't this title belong to the Miata?

I've seen that commercial. Without getting into the argument of "is the eclipse a sports car"...I believe them.

There's not too many Japanese "sports" cars that have been around for the past 20 years consecutively.

Lol at it being a sports car. I've yet to see one at the track or autox.

MX5 Miata comes to mind first and I find it hard to believe Mitsu has moved more Eclipses than Mazda has Miatas. Any one care to dig up some numbers???

BTW, your name rocks! Reminds me of classic Connan!

Miata = 735,813
Eclipse = 919,191

And I stand corrected. :-(

Based on these numbers I would guess the Eclipse outsold the Miata by 2:1

Looks like about 2m Eclipsi over the cars life.

The first and second gen were close enough to sportscars for me.

Agreed.

I would much rather have a GSX Eclipse then a Miata, any day of the week.
