Default Adios S2000 - UPDATE PICS

After searching for just the right substitute for the S2k, I decided on a 2003 996, actic silver/black. Picking the car up tomorrow. The main reason for the switch is to accomodate my almost 1 year-old son in daddy's sports car along with the wife.

The P-car is amazing. Got some good options on her such as the sport seats (very similar to the S2k seats), sport exhaust and rigidly tuned chassis (stiffer shocks and springs). I still say the S2k is one of the best sportscars on the road. I will miss her, but look forward to the new wheels. I have a feeling I'll have another S2k sometime in the future.

Of course, I'll still come around and see the happennings here. Rennlist is a great site however.

Enjoy, they fixed most of the RMS and other inherent flaws in the NA 996 by '03.

Also test drove an 01. The difference between the pre-02 and the post-02 are very noticeable. The chassis is much stiffer. test drove 4 cars in total before settling on this one.

The RMS issue keeps popping up. My car has had 2 RMS leaks, the latest fixed with the "new" seal and bolts recommended by Porsche. It's simply an inherent flaw in the design. If one wants a 996, one simply has to be prepared to see some oil at one time or another. The RMS issue has been blown out of proportion. People drive their cars with their leaks for many miles and replace the RMS when the clutch needs replacing. It's a bother, but at $800 for the work out of warranty (mine is CPO for 2 years, btw), it's not a financial killer. If it needs replacing every 15k-30k on average, it's not a big deal. I spend more than that on tires every year for Christ's sake.

Insurance is CHEAPER than my S2k. It even took the insurance agent by surprise over the phone. It has something to do with demographics. Older people normally buy Porsche's and their incidence of collisions, theft and other damages are less probable. At least that's how it was explained and it actually made sense.

The maintenance will undoubtedly be higher than the Honda. My S2k has been rock solid for 3 years. Hopefully the P-car won't be horrible, but I'm setting my expectations low. The RMS issue is really a non-issue. It can be corrected rather easily and besides, Porsches are oily. Always have been. Nature of the beast.

That being said, the car is a blast to drive. The sound alone is amazing. The exhaust on the 2002+ really sounds close to the old air-cooled models of yore.

Wow, that is a surprise....I thought it would be more but didnt know how much more.. haha.

It would be crazy if oil change cost near 500ish for the porsche.
