Default advice for GTi

Hey I was thinking of getting the VW GTi 20th anniversary for my first car. I know how to drive manual and this seems like a really good car. Does anyone have some feedback that i may need? I heard that the engine might have a ton of problems but im not sure. I read around the forums but couldnt find a lot about it. Would you choose the 20th anniversary GTi or the Mini Cooper S? AHhh i cant decide. Thanks in advance for your responces.

I had a 2002 GTI and now have a Audi TT, both with the 1.8T. I have real issues with the build quality put out by the Volkswagen Auto Group (VAG). I really have to discourage anybody from buying a VAG product until they can build them to the quality of the design. I'm not sure which engine is going in the 20th Anniversary, but the 1.8T is a strong and reliable engine. Minus a coil pack issue, it is the rest of the car that seems to fall apart.

The VW is a nice driving car but I like the drive of the smaller Cooper S better.

It is the 1.8t that is in the car but it has a 6 speed transmission. The mini cooper s is a 12 month waiting list at Long Beach Mini. That is the only dealer selling at msrp in the los angeles area. I can get a blue GTi 20th anniversary edition in 12-16 weeks. ahhh i cant decide. what falls apart on the car? i heard about the door handles is that true? i really would hate going to the dealer to get lots of small things fixed.

Just picked up my Imola Yellow 20th Anniversary GTi on Thursday. Some of you may remember that this is also the same color as my S4 was. This car is simply awesome... I can't say enough good things about it. The suspension and brakes alone with the transmission make it worth the 3k premium over the regular GTI 1.8t. This is my 6th MK4 GTI and by FAR the best one. It handles heads and tails above a standard one. The recaros are awesome... hell everything about the car is awesome... and for $23,800... who can argue. Its a great car, you'll love it. Take it from me.. I'm the GTI expert

zerin,

Should we expect to see this one on par with the S4 performance wise? You have any plans for it yet or leaving it stock for a little while?
