I use the whistler but it seems like most people here use valentine or passport which are a bit more expensive.

Please do a search on radar detectors.

That said, do a search on... Try the keywords Valentine 1 and Passport 8500. Those seem to be the top two favorites around here. The electronics forum is probably your best bet.

Valentine V1 and you need my lawyer in Orlando - never paid a ticket since he became my friend!

I did however get a ticket a few monthe ago by a Frickin airplane and my detector didn't make a chirp but, the cop had to show the stopwatch had been calibrated in the last six months by law and he couldn't show proof so it was thrown out - it really pays to know the law!

v-1 if its a sportscar (you will drive fast)
8500 for a sports sedan (you drive moderately over the speedlimit)
7500s for a daily driver (you may push backroads limits but not on the highway)

I have a V1 and yes it helps, your eyes are the most important part of the equation. Look for brake lights ahead. Look for cars pulled over to the side either side, because there is a new trend out there to use instant on radar guns. With instant on if there is nobody close enough in front as a target your only warning is when your detector goes off and at that point it is too late. He has you.

I had that happen recently at night, but fortunately he was facing the other direction and after going over a slight rise, where he could not see my tail light I took a quick turn and succeeded in evading. I know it was a dumb move. Don't recommend it, but it worked.

Since then I have seen instant on in my local town Orange as well as I95. I95 is particularly bad, because they have cameras and radar every 1/8 th of a mile to monitor the traffic.
