Default Anyone have a Prius?

thinking this may make a sensible choice as a 2nd car with my Elise. Anyone have one of the newer ones? What do you think of it?

Just heard on the radio this morning that there is a loooong wait for the Prius due to the demand. It is interesting that the topic of hybrids has been in the news a lot lately, both on TV and our local paper. But every time they talk about hybrids, they only mention the Prius, and never the Civic hybrid or the Insight. Is it possible the news is "bought" by Toyota?

looong wait may be an understatement.

used ones are fetching 28 to 30K on ebay. most of the auctions are ending early because of off-line bids.

gas is only $0.75/gallon more than it used to be.

people are absolutely nuts!

i wouldn't pay over sticker for it. i'm sure i can find one if i decide it's something i want.

I don't really care about gas prices that much, just seems like cool technology and an interesting car. Also, at 27k loaded with bluetooth and voice activated nav, it's a pretty good deal regardless of the engine.

It's rather more likely that the Prius is what people have heard of, and that reporters are more likely to cover cars that they know about and that their readership is interested in.

Wrong. The battery pack and related electric al equipment are warrantied for 8 years/100,000 miles. Expected battery pack life is approx 150,000 miles

The Prius is the best hybrid. I hear Toyota is not making a lot (if any) profit so mayby that's why they don't pump up production to 100+K/year.

A guy at work has one, but he's not a car enthuast. I hear they are dull to drive.

I'd say a much better (more fun) car would be the new Scion coupe. It's got a 165hp engine and cost's only $16-17K. With the up-front savings you will never spend enough in "extra" gas to cover the extra cost of the Prius.
