Red face Audi: No RS badging on Utes

http://www.autoblog.com/2010/10/19/report-...tes/1#c31087831

Audi will only badge, and one assumes, package its cars with RS and associated equipment, no trucks. This is different from MB and BMW that badge everything to the point that M and AMG are now just another option to tick off when ordering. I think its a good move to keep value in the RS name, vs overplaying it and making it meaningless like what GM did with the SS badge in the 90s.

Thoughts?

Don't care. The RS models aren't even as focused. I don't mind the SUVs having the AMG/M badge so long as they've been thoroughly massaged by the performance division. Bringing Porsche's Turbo badge in just doesn't make sense.

I appreciate it. The essence of ///M has become diluted over the years, especially now with the X5 & 6 M.

Find an SUV that can perform like an X5M/X6M and I think you'll see why it doesn't dilute the brand.

PS. There's really only one other, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, and how much more does that one cost?

Maybe not up quite up to par with the X5M, but i'm sure a Cherokee SRT8 could hang..

Thank you Audi for not going the BMW route.

Yet what is the point of the M badge? Some say it's to create a pure sports car and that's it, but these are the same people who are against the Cayenne. My view of the M badge is that it's the pinnacle of engineering and just pure driving bliss. The M badge doesn't need to be some sub 3000lb car, it needs to be the best driving car in it's class. And I think it does that with every single M model.
