Default The Audi S4

What is everyones opinions on these cars. I went and test drove one with the tiptronic today and i was really impressed with it. Im thinking of picking one of these cars up, probably with the 6spd though, and wonder if anyone has any long term experience with these cars. How reliable are they? What is the aftermarket like for these? Anyone know of any message boards for these cars so i can read up more on them. Thanks.

I assume that it is from the old A4 body style as they do not have an S4 from the new body yet. The new one is expected to come out in a few years (they usually follow a few years after the A4 is introduced). The old S4's were pretty nice. Fixed up you could get up to 400 hp from them, but the handling isn't great without being modified. Nice car now, but be careful because it will probably loose a lot of value in a few years, when the new one comes out.

The S4 is an awesome car. I put some coilovers on and it helps the handling tremendously. It is a very comfortable and very fun. The amenities are quite nice, climate control, decent audio system if you upgrade to the BOSE, seat heaters, headlight washers (i havent tried them yet), auto dimming mirrors and more. I have 15K on my S4 with zero problems so far. I have the Tiptronic version since it is my bad weather car and I didnt want to mess with shifting in stop and go traffic. BTW, the TIP is nice, not as quick as the 6 speed but you can go into manual mode (great for twisties). All in all a very nice car.

What is the percentage of owners that have faults and problems with their S4's?

Is it a majority or a minority? I too was thinking about the S4 but I heard they are not reliable at all. I went to the boards and many many people were having electricity problems and others of that matter....it's a truly nice car though.

Cheers,

Bryan

An S4 with aftermarket chip (ECU) and exhaust can run low 13s. My friend ran a 13.2.

There are S4s out there running 100 octane with race programs running high 12s.

I think the s4 is a really nice car. Do the 2002 S4s still have as many problems as older ones or have some of the problems been fixed. Thanks
