Default audi s4

im just wondering what you guys think of an audi s4 compared to an evo x. they are both awd but the s4 has a v8, sunroof, and amazing interior. i was watching on youtube a race between these two cars at a track and in the corners the audi can keep up with the mitsu but on the straights the audi reels him in. my question is why would anyone want an evo. i must be missing something. i know the audi is a little more pricey but id still take an 07 s4 over a 10 evo x. what do you guys think?

I haven't driven either, but I would lean toward the used Audi. The Audi is heavier but seems much higher in the luxury dept. and already has plenty of power. And I personally like the understated styling better than Evo and STi. Check the latest issue of C&D, they have an article exactly about what you are asking. http://www.caranddriver.com/features/09q4/...audi_s4-feature

The Evo X should run away from an S4, stock for stock. The handling of the S4 is decent but not fantastic. It's moderately heavy and the AWD system isn't as complex as the Evo X (ie, it's not as competent for sport driving).

The new S4 uses a supercharged V6, not a V8, but it's 4000 lbs. I don't think it would really do much better on a race track.

I think you saw a video with drivers of different skill levels if the Evo X wasn't handily beating the S4 through the corners.

Video and numbers omit the single most biggest factor in the decision between these two. They could not be more different in driving feel.

The Evo is a razor sharp, light, loud, crude, harsh no comprimise performance car. Sneeze while driving one and you might veer off the road into a ditch.

The S4 is a solid heavy luxurious German with plenty of torque and a relaxed demeanor. Driving one hard has a steamroller feel that has a great appeal of it's own.

Chances are you will prefer one or the other. If you want both save up and get a Carrera 4.

I'd get a CPO'd B6 S4. They're great cars and pretty reliable. We gave our 04 to my father and it's still rocking along. It's not a sports car, but a great real-world car.

And I wouldn't take it to the track. It's heavy.

Abdizzle I would describe my 08 STI similarly- huge improvement in terms of comfort and luxury over the earlier models (traded an 07 STI Limited on it). I describe it as being much more Audi-like than earlier STI's. Just having door frame around the windows makes a big difference, as small as that sounds. But slightly softer dampening, Nav, steering wheel controls, better seats, all around just a more solid car, but also heavier/less raw if that is your preference.
