I have a manual in my Vette for weekend/evening fun and I have an automatic in my Yukon for the daily commute. Best of both worlds.

My last car was an automatic and it drove me crazy. I hated that transmission so much.

I do feel that people who drive manual transmission cars tend to be better drivers, not necessarily in the sense of technical skill, but in teh sense that they are more aware of what's going on around them.

I look at it as the difference between a driver and a commuter.

That's a poorly written article. It was more about dealing with a rental car and its problems rather than the little 2 sentences he had at the end about manual transmissions.
3/4 of that article was about his rental car experience. Talks nothing about automatics until it's almost over.

When I take long trips in my Camry, I usually get sleepy on my drive back home because the automatic transmission does everything for me and it really gets boring to drive; however, with the S2000, it's a whole different story. All I have to do is downshift and rev match and that keeps me active. Manual transmission keeps you active and alert, even if you're extremely tired imho.

I am afraid of automatics myself. I keep thinking that the time I start thinking positive things about an automatic that AARP will start sending me their magazine plus Buick dealers will be calling non stop!

Yeah, cuz 6th gear on the highway in the S with the cruise on is really going to be that different from an automatic...

Blah blah blah.

Tip in Porsche is faster than manual.

Unless you drive a manual with straight cut gears and a non syncro gear box you ain't "driving" a manual. Unless you know how to heel and toe a non syncro gearbox you ain't all that.

The modern gearbox is made so that anybody who gave the DMV $25.00 is a so called driver.
