Default b16a2 stumbling under load during certain circumstances

Looking to get some insight if possible

b16a2
-buddy club spec 3 cams/ blox cam gears
- sk2 im > edelbrock TB > aem cai
- header > hiflow > 2.5"
- sk2 fuel rail, 750 cc deatchworks injectors
-tuned for 91/e85 hondatas300
Been running 91 octane for months now

What it does: stumbling/misfire/losing power? at WOT (straight or during cornering) beyond 5k rpm it's straight up farting and losing power/stumbling. it does continue to climb to 8k but extremely slow and farting/rev needle rumbling/struggling like the motor is about to blow up. Driving like a grandma under 6k or at 1/2 throttle or less seems fine, though I don't tend to shift over 6k unless i'm going spiritedly.

Changed plugs. Didn't seem to solve the issue, though I did notice one of the plug boots does not want to seat all the way down but it is firmly in place and requires as hard a pull to make it pop out like the rest.

I took off the aluminum spark plug cover and now does not do seem to do this going straight. If I corner it will do this.

Is this related to spark, fuel delivery, or something else? wtf.

edit: plugs and wires are new and does not appear to be the problem but could be wire/spark related. See latest post. 10/13/24

Hmm I suppose I could, doesn't hurt to give it a tap. I'll try it out when I head to work tomorrow morning and find some corners. Will report back after try to replicate this

If it's in the corners, probably a fuel delivery issue of some sort where the pickup isn't able to readily grab fuel. If it's an actual ignition problem, it shouldn't matter if it's in a straight line or through a corner.

Dirty fuel filter, maybe?

Is it possible your tune has been "lost" and it's trying to run the original tune?

No clue on a solution but I'd love to see some photos of this engine in a S2000. And the rationale for fitting it.

Noodle- no drive today. Hot day, no ac, took a different car. Though the previous owner seem to have stripped a screw. I'll need to dremel a slot for a flathead or use a screw extrator. I did smack it about a weebit and jiggle the connector

Darcy- Possible but wonder why of spec valves would do this.

Jonboy: Fuel filter worth a look. what would cause a tune loss. I'll check the former first then potentially seek out a tuner. Oddly enough when I put on a new aluminum spark plug cover it would be doing this anytime over 5k at WOT no matter what

Chuck: it's in a 92 civic hence car and bike talk and not in the s2000 threads. This engine would be possibly be abysmal in a s2000

Not sure if you've checked, but as others have mentioned: check all your electrical connections. A bad MAP connection will cause issues (as previously mentioned) and additionally, if your coolant sensor connection is bad or if it's going out, you'll get similar symptoms to what you're describing.

So I had an CANDM EM1 (b16A2) for nearly 20 years and here is what I could offer.
Replace the distributor rotor and cap. I had odd symptoms, similar to yours. I did valve adjustment and finally after replacing all the intake gaskets, finally checked the continuity of the rotor cap. Sure enough, that fixed the issue.

good luck.
