Easily the newer one. Drives and looks a whole lot better.

I've owned a 986S, 987S and a 2012 Black Edition Boxster S.

I love the new 981 but unfortunately the deal breakers are:

1-Ridiculous power increase: 5 more HP? My Black Edition had 320HP, the new one has 315HP. Doesn't make sense.

2-The rear spoiler. Sorry but it's quite tacky looking and ruins the look (for me).

The 981 S comes standard with 19" wheels, not 20". 20" is an expensive option (as are all Porsche options).

I would not make a determination without having driven both cars. If you get a chance, do it. The newer Boxster is worlds apart in feel, comfort and performance over the older one, even if the numbers do not seem to say so.

I had a 2007 987 and kept it for 4 years. If I were buying now I'd go for the 981. All the road tests say its a great car, I like the looks, and it has decent power, handling and transmission - PDK all the way.

New one. I want one in the worst way. Can't quite justify it yet, though. Maybe next year

Well... I actually really want a 981. Never really loved the boxster until now.
