its a danderous game, but and m5, especially with the newer engine would be so much fun.
and if you are looking for something with less possible issues, the first gen cts-v has plenty of room and plenty of fun. some will say that the interior is not as good, and there are less features, but that also means that there are les things that can/will go wrong.

M5 isn't that big inside. A Honda Accord has more room. It's still a "big car" but it doesn't feel it inside.

Now that I think about it after looking at the Lexus GS, has anyone ever had experience with the previous generation RL or know anyone who has had experience in owning one? I really love the look of them and the prospect of SH AWD in a daily driver
If you're looking at and S Class for ~20k, you're looking at what, 5 yrs old and 60k mi or so? That's not so bad, but you could get a 3 year old 3/C Class/G35 for that money and get a CPO warranty maybe.
