Default bike or wheels

I'm thinking about either picking up a used bike or getting some wheels for my S (BBS LM)the wheels are 3k + tires 1k= 4k for wheels....i should be able to pick up a decent used bike for 4k's right....?I am a first time rider and will be learning on this bike.was thinking about a 600...maybe in a couple months....any thoughts comments...?

Thanks
David

You could probably find a fairly new 600 for 4k, you may have to look pretty hard though. I would get a bike personally. I'm trying to save for one now but with the new house its kinda tough, i'll just have to settle with the S2k for now.

IMO, a bike will be more fun than a new set of wheels, but will be waaay more expensive than the initial purchase price:

- MSF course and safety (I hope you won't skimp on these two)
- insurance
- maintenance
- crash damage? (most beginners end up dropping their bikes)

Not forgetting the cost of all the clothing etc..

I'd still go for the bike rather than the wheels though

I have about $2500 saved up so far and wanted to just buy whole thing....I dislike payments....was thinking about the 600RR...I think the new style starts from 03 right...?I'm sure if I look hard i can find one...maybe with high miles....?either way it's gonna be my frist bike so i don't really care very much about the mileage as long as it's running correctly...

At that low price you'd be better off getting a clean SV650, especially for your first bike. Definitely shop for insurance first. That RR's insurance cost should scare you straight.

I have been riding a long time. 25 years, never been without a bike. I recently found the S though and haven't been riding much. It's more fun with the S right now. I suggest a first time rider should take the Motorcycle Safety Foundation course. It will be worth it. It will help you a lot and also help get your license. You may want to get a cruiser to start off ( something slower). A 600RR is real fast and handles way beyond the capability of a novice. Good luck with the bike

If you get a bike, not only will you be over those rims, but you might be over the S. Ofcourse, it's a win win situaiton to have a bike and the S. Catch my drift...

Your S already has wheels!

Set aside $500-$1000 for the gear.

I've been riding for 21 years. If forced into a choice, I'd take the bike over my S.

This morning it was 35 dgrees when I left my house. I had a choice of a pickup, the S, and my motorcycle...I rode the bike!
