Default BMW "M" question ...

I'm confused about the BMW M3.
Is the 3-series "M" version called an M3? Is a Z3 "M" version called an M3? How does one tell them apart when talking about them (is it a Z3 M3 and a 3-series M3 or what?)

The 3-series based M is called the "M3"
The convertible 3-series based M is called the "M3 Convertible"
The Z3 roadster based M is called the "M Roadster"
The Z3 coupe based M is called the "M Coupe"

The 3 series is called M3...the "M" version of the Z3 is called the M Roadster. It doesn't stop there, however. There is a hatchback version of the Z3 called the M Coupe.

Well thanks for the clarification. Guess I'm just not up on my Bimmer terminology. Glad the s2000 is just the s2000. Not counting those other icky nicknames for it, it's pretty easy to figure out.
