BMW M3 Engine Failures
Trending Topics
I'm a member of the local BMW CCA Chapter. We had a member who reported a "tick-tick" in the engine of his new 2002 E46 M3 to his dealer. The dealer said no problem, drive the car until it fails and we will replace the engine.
Long story short- believe me, that engine destroyed itself big time at the track! The oil slick that was dropped on the track was not a pretty sight. And amazingly lucky the car was going straight at the time because there is no way the car would have cornered very well with the back tires covered in oil!
The dealer picked the car up on a flat bed and replaced the engine. No charge to the owner. Although that sounds great, I would have been furious if the dealer told me to drive it until it failed. How would you know when it was going to fail? Where would you be stranded when it failed? How could you drive the car knowing at some point it was going to leave you stranded?
