Default Bought an old Jeep

2004, so just as old as my S2000, but new to me!

I wanted something for around town and the nearby forest trails, but mostly just knocking around town with the fam, since the S only has two seats.

Inline six engine in that model year, I think. Congrats! Older Jeeps are a blast to bang around town.

Jesus that thing is clean, straight time capsule. Congrats man, Jeeps are one of those vehicles that defy logic, like they're sorta terrible in every normal way, and yet they're so endearingly awesome. I'd love to own one someday, just not any of the new turbocharged one.

Super clean! Manual? Inline 6?

Just snagged me a ‘24 2 door manual. Happy to be back in a Jeep. Nothing like it.

We just sold an inherited 1990 Wrangler with a 4 cylinder and a 5 speed. It was truly awful. Top speed was 68mph on the highway and felt like it would tip over standing still. My parents had a 1998 with the 4.0L years ago and it was worlds better, but still pretty twitchy. Give us a ride report!

Yes, the reliable 4.0 Inline 6, with a 5-speed manual. New enough to have coils and springs, and air bags, but you can still take it apart with a wrench quite easily.

Very clean, mostly stock, and very agrarian, like Jeeps are. It's about as far as I could get from my daily, so I'm really covering the four corners on cars now.

I'd been telling myself this for a while, and finally jumped to buy an un-moddified TJ after looking at several good and bad examples of modified Jeeps, and wanting something simple enough to work on easily without being too old. It's perfect for trucking around town in, so long as you have something else to drive on the highway or in the rain!

100%. Isn't it funny in that as we grow older you sorta seek out simplicity and a break from the everyday stuff. There is something satisfying about owning something that you can mostly take care of yourself and not rely on anyone else, and that Jeep is just the right mix of old and new that it should fit that bill nicely.

It's kinda crazy when you think about it that it's already old enough to be bordering on vintage, and in today's world of jelly bean CUVs, the Jeep really does stand out. I always like the quirky windows on the hardtop of the TJs too.
