Default Boxster or Cayman?

I have just recently leased a Boxster S. But I have noticed a lot of the members seem to be interested in the Cayman S.

I have not even considered getting a cayman over the boxster. The cayman doesnt even come with a sunroof.

Why would you get a no sunroof when you can get a convertible?

Is it just for looks? I do agree the cayman does look good.

Or is it the performance? I believe the Cayman performs a little bit better, but its probably only noticeable in the track.

So what is the reason?

being a s2000 forum shouldnt most people want a convertible instead?

I didn't buy the S2000 because it was a convertible

Cayman S for sure. Sunroofs are over rated

I agree.

Aside from looks the Cayman S is not more fun to drive on regular roads.

And I prefer the looks of the Boxster S with the top down to the Cayman S.

I had no interest in convertibles when I bought the S2000. I bought it because it was the most fun car I had ever driven in its price range. Being able to drop the top was just a bonus

However, if Honda had offered a coupe version of the S2000, I definitely would have bought that instead. I've always preferred 2-door coupes versus their convertible counterparts. And sure, I understand the appeal of a convertible, but having owned the Cayman S for almost two months now, I haven't missed it one bit

If you live somewhere you can't put the top down ~ 6 months out of the year, having a convertible isn't an advantage. There's no sunroof in a canvas top, either....

I would much rather drive a coupe without a sunroof than a convertible with the top up. In terms of aesthetics, I prefer the look and rear visibility of a coupe than a vert with the top up as well...

This always fascinates me! I was shopping convertibles specifically and wouldn't haven't given the S2K a second look otherwise.

Yeah, there are areas of the country where I'd never consider a convertible.

I don't particularly like convertibles (and I've had 2 S2000s). I don't like the compromised structure, which I do think you notice in every-day driving, especially in the last convertible I drove, a 996 cabriolet. It also has to be a perfect day for me to really enjoy top-down driving. Actually, I enjoy top-down driving more at night. I can't say I enjoy driving around with the top down sweating on a hot day in my work clothes, often a suit and tie, which is what happens more often than not if it is over 80 degrees. Plus, convertibles, especially the S2000, aren't as good tourers as coupes due to the extra noise at speed on the freeway. Really, if I were to buy another convertible, I think it would be something like a CLK550 for the Mrs. to have as a cruiser with the kids in back on a nice day or summer evening or at the beach.

Too bad they don't make an FX35 convertible or else you might have to pick up one of those as well!
