The Boxster was cool when it came out, but it's hardly an S2000. Boxster has a sloppy shifter, and try working on it your self... Even if they were the same price, I'd choose the S2000. It's a better driving experience. Take a Boxster hard into the corner and you can feel it flex and shake. I like the look of the Boxster and the additional storage, but that's about it. Sounds cool too. The 911 on the other hand, is a fine car. Looks like the revamped Boxster still isn't going to be up to the par of the S2000 or Z4.

 

my co-worker/good friend (who incidentally is also a car nut and F1 fan like me), bought a used Boxster. about 4 months later I bought an S2000 (2003). 6 months down the road, he still drools over my car.

His car is a little more comfy, but it isn't any better built. Hell its been i nthe shop for 3 weeks because of eletrical problems. The seats aren't as nice, the design on the interior isn't as 'race car' inspired, the driving feel isn't as crisp.

We both agree as an every day driver, the Boxster wins (which his is). But in overall visceral fun to drive and balls out feel with a pure sports car, the S2000 is the ticket.


Plus i have an Invidia exhaust so nothing near us sounds like my car after 6K RPM :-)

Having driven both on a track, S2000. The Boxster S is not noticably faster and the shifter is vastly inferior feeling to the S2000's and the S2000 is simply more fun. I don't see it as a hairdresser's car; I think it is a great car, but it is not worth the extra $$.

 

If you're buying a Porsche, make it a 911. I considered a Boxster, but it had to be a 99 or 00 w/more miles than what my S2000 had.

Plus the huge maintenance costs and the S2000 is a better all around performer.

 

As far as comfort goes that isnt the purpose of the S2000. I wouln't buy a sports care due to comfortability simply pure driving pleasure. My S is my daily driver until salt or snow hits the road and while i didnt purchase the car for comfort i find it to be fine, and believe me michigan roads are shit, ask joeking... i dont know where im going with this post now il get back to eating lunch

 

LOL... I could say the same... Don't waste your time with the S2000, go for the NSX.

How do I know? I use to own a 2001 S2000. Now a Boxster S. Both are fun cars. The Boxster S feels special even after a year of ownership. On the other hand, after several months with the S2000, I felt it was just another Honda product... IMO of course.

The Boxster and S2000 are both unique in its own right. The cost of ownership on both vehicles is subjective. Both cars have their problems. It comes down to how much the owner can tolerate the problem.

 

True. Also, the same can be said for the Carerra 4. Why didn't you get the Turbo?

Isnt the s2k faster than the boxter.. I know the boxter s is quicker.. But from what i read and in some videos i've seen, the boxter doesnt win much.

 

That's true in the hands of a skilled driver. Boxster < S2000 < Boxster S.

For the typical average driver I would say: S2000 < Boxster < Boxster S.
