Default C6 LS3 coming mid year?

There's some speculation over at corvetteforum that the C6 will get a new motor in mid 2007. Guesses are that the power of the LS3 will be in the 435-450hp range. If the rumor is true, the performance gap between the regular C6 and the Z06 will narrow significantly (assuming no power bump for the Z06). Sales of the C6 LS2 will also be impacted. I would expect dealers to cut great deals on new LS2 cars once the LS3 arrives.

This is great

It goes to show that (unlike Porsche) high power and low-mid price can go hand in hand.

I'm not putting Porsche down, the fact that they can get away with charging what they do for the modest HP they provide is great for them. I'm just pointing out that it doesnt cost any more to make a 3.8L engine than it is to make a 3.6L engine but Porsche will charge you up and down to get the 'better' engine.

Not coming until 2008 and I would expect a price increase with the HP bump. Power closer to 425hp

Not to mention they charge obscene amouts for these so called "Power kits." When they have the technology, and it costs them little if anything at all to put in these different parts at the factory. Why should they rape the Porsche (other than they can) buyer of another $12K. If you got the technology give it to us. That's why as a previous Porsche owner I have no qualms when they have to discount their cars $6K to sell them. The 355 hp engine should have been on the Carrera & the Carrera S should have the 380 hp engine.

Good for Chevrolet for always keeping their customers at the forefront of engine technology.

It will be an '08 model, but s/b announced in late April and available for order in June. My local Chevy dealer has instructions to call me when they become available (though I haven't definitively decided between this, a Cayman S, or just keeping the S).

Hmm, would this LS3 car maybe go toward a mmid-model Corvette? I'm thinking on the order of the LT4-powered GS and Collector's Edition from 1996. It was less than a ZR-1 (which admittedly had been canceled by then, making the GS king of the range), but it was more than an LT1.

Also, I wonder if they have any other body styles planned that they may introduce around the same time as this engine. Ethusiasts might prefer another hardtop ediition, although I prefer the coupe profile myself.

Man I have to agree with you guys on the Porsche thing. Give the buyers the technology rather than price it up.

I'm in the market for a new 997 and just browsing through the option list is dizzying. Why the hell would I pay $200 to have my clothes hook covered with leather?

Nice! Now GM can justify a Camaro SS version with the LS7 engine it so the Corvette owners don't get in a tizzy.

That was my thought as well.
