A rear mid-engine Corvette will open the market to many buyers who would've never considered a Corvette. The Vette faithful are going to buy it either way. I wish them the best of luck and it's about time this elusive car is actually in production!

I'm concerned about the curb weight. I'm hearing that it'll be 3,600 lbs. Now, I've told myself that this is a dealbreaker and I won't do more than 3,300 and change. I may have to reconsider. If it were 3,200 lbs., I'd be at a dealer right now putting down a deposit.

Paint the black trim on the side vents and i think it would look better. That black makes them stand out weirdly to my eye as well. Very impressive and like always this will push other cars to be better.

That always got me. With all the proven results of the Vette on track over the years, killing cars much more expensive (rear engine, mid engine, etc), some people stil could not get past where the engine sits and some even could not swallow it using a pushrod motor :P I guess some care more about what is listed on paper than how the car actually performs.

I also love the fact that it's using reliable, well-proven technology for the engine AND nearly makes as much power as the 427 in the C6 Z06. That's progress! It keeps cooling a lot simpler, more room in the engine bay, less maintenance, etc.

This is a seriously impressive car, even without the relatively low price tag.

For me (not wanting a Corvette) has been the exterior looks (which improve each new generation), cheap interior, and stigma of a Vette owner (warranted or not). I don't care how well it handles or how powerful it is (much in thanks to Lotus), but a Vette is just not me.

I can't imagine it being that significantly heavier. Guess we'll see.

So true, problem with virtually all mid engine sports cars on todays market is that you'd feel very nervous owning one at 100k. The LTx engines are track proven to be reliable. The funny thing about it is that I bet if all manufacturers including GM used SOHC/DOHC engines, and then Porsche came up with the idea of using an OHV engine as a packaging solution, people would herald Porsche for some creative problem solving. But because it's essentially been in production since the 60s and the initial design was drawn on a napkin, despite that it packs more useable power and gets great mpg and is relatively clean people still can't wrap their brains around it.

Will this sway the 911 crowd, probably not, but this vette is looking right at the Cayman crowd.
