Default Calling on Honda experts

Looking for a car for my soon to be driving age son and to take up snowboarding. Does this appear to be a good deal?

2005 CR-V SE 4X4 with 56,581 for $16,994

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_...2005&cardist=16

Just started researching CR-V's. Is there a used year or model that that is better than others?

All opinions appreciated

check carmax.com for prices, I think that's a good place to relate with...but those cars have carmax warranties too.

seems like a TON of miles to me.

KBB lists that car with those miles (private party sale) at $17K so it's not like you are getting a great deal.

It's like a Honda to keep good resale but I think it's a lot to pay for nearly 60K miles on the car.

Funny how people say $4 off of $17K like that's anything different than $17K. I'd offer $14K see what happens.

I think they are asking too much. My friend picked up a newer one for less than that, but then again that was here in NM not sure how much different the prices are from here to there. Is your mind set on a Honda? If it is have you looked into an older SUV like a Passport? I did a search in your area and found about 70 listings under autotrader, save yourself 10 grand. just my opinion though.

IDK about used prices, since I genreally buy new. With a new car you have 4-years warranty, you don't need tires or brakes for 3-4 years, don't need battery, timing belt etc.. all things that can go wrong on a 3-4 year old used car.

In my area they have 'no haggle' dealerships (not Honda) but just an example you can get a brand new 08 Subaru Forester for ~$19K is just $2K more than your 3 year old CRV.

You can't go wrong with a Forester (in the small SUV segment) IMO. It's not lovely to look at but I have not heard anything bad about them.

Look at the Legacy OB also for a bit more. I have a Legacy wagon and it's been no trouble and great as a DD or winter beater. I see a ton of Subi wagons around.

since you're local in SoCal, I strongly suggest you PM pierceman and/or JohnR - many locals have bought new and used through them, and both are also quite friendly and will answer this kinda question (and will also search their databases for cars that meet your specs).
