I really like F1 and have been trying to learn more about it. Watched the race at Monaco and thought it was great, but watching the Indy 500 today, I noticed a lot of differences in the cars themselves. What are all the differences that you guys know of (e.g. tracks, cars, regulations, etc.)? Thanks!

 

you watched the indy 500 over the f1 race in germany?? ummmm.. hehehe

well there's a big difference between the two race sanctions...rules are very different also... i'm not really into indy so i don't know all the rules for it.. but as for F1:

- race engine must last 2 races
- cannot change tires during race
- cars must weigh in at least 600kg
- all engines are v10's (will be changed to v8's next year)
- there's two championships... driver championship and manufacture championship..

F1 they have a standing start vs a rolling start for most other types of races. F1 they never do oval tracks, they always have to use their brakes and shift gears and turn left and right.

So the one tire set rule was the reason why the McClaren kept running w/ a flat spotted tire? I would have hated to see the damage the tire would have done had the steel tether not been on there. How did that happen? Did the suspension fail?

Races are mostly ovals but there are two road courses and a temporary street course on the 2005 schedule

The most famous is the Indy 500 (I'm not sure when they run this race) but it's worth just as many points as the other races in the series

Big difference - Formula 1 will be around for a long time.

IRL is holding on only due to the fact that they have the Indy 500

 

Last year the way to tell if it was Formula1 or Indy/Champ was that there was a red car out front. Now you have to look at the girls in the stands, F1 has way hotter chicks.
