Default Canada to the US

I am thinking about purchasing a car in Canada for $8500. I want to bring it back to the United States where I live (in New York). What is the best and legal way of doing this? Please give me every step as I dont want to chance not being able to bring it over the boarder after spending all that money.

Thanks

That easy? No forms to fill out or taxes/fees to pay? Ill have a dealer plate so I wont have to insure or register it to get it home. If it is as easy as you say it is, then I just pay and drive back.

I don't have a clue. Just remember that "Because some guy on the internet told me" is not an acceptable excuse for customs if you do end up being wrong. I'd bet there are some kind of import taxes, but I don't know for sure. I say do some more homework on it.

If this car is a go, Im going to just call up a DMV in Canada or the one here in NY. They should know being they deal with every car on the road.

I hope this isn't too personal a question but what car are you purchasing? I mean, could you find a similar deal in the U.S without double guessing whether or not you'll be screwed?

Well my buddy picked a gts r33 skyline from canada. well traded a kid with a skyline for his 98 supra tt and he told me there are a lot of forms and only a couple of things that you have to convert on the r33 to get them legalized in the US. Its a pain in the ass and after spending around 4,000 bucks you can get it road legal.

I dunno what car your getting but i doubt its as easy as just driving over the boarder. Do they check your registration and your insurance when you drive over the boarder? if they don't i guess you could just drive it over and then take the title and stuff to your local dmv and get it notarized. haha

I was being a sarcastic douchebag before. Sorry.

But no, I have no idea.
