They're sad because it means no JDM parts for their civics.

You may want to take that back, jack. Since the late '90s, early 2000s, Honda has been the #2 automaker in Japan in sales. That's why I was wondering if Nissan has just RECENTLY surpassed Honda in JDM sales.

In its home market Nissan is the third largest car manufacturer, with Honda being second by a small margin and Toyota in a very dominant first.
Honda surpassed Nissan in 2001 to become the second-largest Japanese automobile manufacturer.

Why is it that cars like the Corolla continue to sell well in Japan, but the Civic does not?

I have no clue about vehicle sales in Japan but I'm betting nothing in that class sells well.
Your bet is wrong, then. The Corolla and Fit are 2 of the best-selling vehicles in Japan; they're in the same class as the Civic. The Fit is why the Civic is discontinued.

Fit is not in the same class. Way less interior room, especially in the back. It's a way smaller vehicle overall.

Corolla would be the exception, then. Anything else sell well and is the Corolla the same one we get here?

Close enough that it absolutely cannibalized the Civic, even Honda admits it; while being cheaper. The Corolla remains in the same price range as the Civic, but it's still the #1 selling car there (Fit is 2nd).

Better value over there, perhaps, but still not in the same class. I stand by my point.

The Corolla has been a world best-seller for years. It is THE car almost everywhere you go.

Your point was that you thought no car in that class (compact, subcompact economy) was selling well, and I posted that the 2 best-selling cars happen to be in such a class, not some wagon, hybrid, boxy vehicles, etc., although the Prius is selling extremely well too.

You posted one, not two. As I said, the Fit is a sub-compact and the Civic is a compact. And I have no problem with the correction. Just don't ruin it by insisting a Fit is comparable to a Civic.
