Default Was this car fast?

I saw this old jaguar. ugly ass green but thats besides the point. It said xjk or xj8 or something very similar on the left side and a big V12 symbol on the right. Two doors. It looked to be AT LEAST 10-15 years old. We were driving on the cross bronx and this thing was haulin serious ass. He wasnt racing my or anything just going fast in his own world but I had trouble keeping up. So anybody know about this car?

It's not a particularly fast machine per se. I don't know how much power the V12 had, but it was kind of Jaguar's answer to the Mercedes SL at the time, more of a luxo GT cruiser than Corvette or Porsche fighter.

Also, the automatics in the 80s models was I think a 3 speed. Talk about tall gearing...

The V12s I'm almost 100% sure had under 300 hp. Maybe like 288hp or so.

Now we have 300hp V6 in the RL

Jag V12's were very smooth running engines. They used to say you could run a XKE V12 Jag with a manual in high gear from 5mph to top speed. I ran one from 5mph to over 100mph in high gear without it lugging, it just pulled -- slowly at first, but it didn't complain.

The XJS much more of a GT and was great on the open highway. There are plenty around now with Chevy V8's in them since it's cheaper to do the swap than fix the V12.
