If you are doing a wet lay up (more than likely what you will be doing), you will want to use epoxy (I suggest West Systems), and you will spread it out using a spreader (like the one used for body work).
Depending on the part size you can also use vacuum bagging, but that is a little more involved. For your first time working with CF, I would say try it out on a small part, and use a hardener with a longer setup time.

waytooslow, it's not going to come out looking like what you're expecting. It's not going to be smooth like a carbon fiber hood. You work it just like fiberglass, but you need some way to put a smooth layer of epoxy or gelcoat over the top. Otherwise, it will be really rough and probably cut your arms up when you lean against the doors.
