Cars ready to track without lots of mods
You have a pipe dream if you think that there are cars you don't have to modify to make them reliable track cars.
example: oil coolers, upgraded cooling system.. .
1.) Find something you would enjoy to drive that's a good base bc you are going to start a journey with this vehicle, learning it, developing it.
____ a) what type of track events do you want to do?
____ b) are you planning on racing wheel to wheel?
2.) sorted track cars are perfect places to start. Usually about 1/2 the cost is already absorbed. less fun for someone that likes to build their own car and develop it but in the end, if it gets you to more track days for cheap, then it's likely a win win. I've met a few people that have had great experiences buying already built track cars. I've also met people that went from really fast HPDE cars to slow race cars so they can get more track time for their money and afford a complete racing season.

I didn't say I wasn't willing to do anything but I don't want to immediately dump a bunch of time and money into something to get it ready. I'm willing to buy a fully developed track car too, but still need to know what base model to look for that will require relatively low maintenance besides basic fluids, brakes, tires etc. I don't want to be wrenching on the car constantly between events is what I am getting at.
What's your track expense budget after you buy a car?

This E36M3 has a E46 M3 oil pan and pump which means it's got the right parts to be made reliable. JRZs and stoptech. It's got the bases covered. It's a 4 dr to boot which is awesome! More room for track goodies to be stuffed in the car easily.
I'd be all over this one if I was in the market. I regret not buying a more track prepped E36M3 when I had the chance. If I woulda just spent another $1,500, I would have had a track prepped 4dr with a Euro 6spd.

08-10 viper acr. Faster. More durable in the heat. I actually got mine from outside of Austin from a guy that had some of the cars mentioned here. It was the only one he could track with the AC on. His zr1 would overheat after 3-4 laps and go into limp mode
I've tracked thunderhill here in CA when it was 105. The Porsches and corvettes all took sessions off. Some started shooting water out of places you shouldn't shoot water out of, etc.
For 85k or less it's by far the best overall track ready street car. The only thing it needs is race pads in front and dot 4 brake fluid. Pads are very cheap, half the price of my Evo.

I just bought a 95 M3 with Motons, camber plates, camber arms and a Dinan/Vortech s/c am going to sell it. Realized FI and track is not the right mix. Great setup for autocross and street but not for track.
My budget is around 85K total. I can't buy a race car that can't be driven to/from the track. Preferably with A/C but not a deal breaker.

A local autocrosser had a 08ish Viper and had engine issues, is that common?

FYI, I am skeptical (for a variety of reasons) that that is an authentic e46 M3 GTR. It looks to be a clone but not the real deal, based on the roll cage. The BMW Motorsports built cars had curved buttress style A-pillar bars. I'd need to see the engine bay to know for sure, but I think on to something here.

BTW - I'm the guy with the Boston Green E36 M3 4dr that you've seen around town and on that s2ki drive.
No plans for tracking that 2010 M3?
