Chris Harris drives the LFA
"The noise" is bad-ass!
And for those still "stuck" on the price (as if you could afford one regardless), then listen to him at about 1:40. As he said, people who are in its market, unlike you who are "stuck on the price", don't often look at the price.
And as he said, the only comparable V10 engine is the Carrera GT's.

I do agree about the price – who cares.
Regardless, the motor sounds wicked. Still fugly though. Wish it came it came with this as an option: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/2777111.stm ... then again, Toyota couldn't make it "in-house", then again, maybe they can since they managed to obtain a magical CF loom from Uranus.

Hmmm, you conveniently forgot to mention that he thought it lacked in road feel and felt slower than a 599 even though it weighed less.
In many ways, its closest natural rival is the Ferrari 599GTB, although the Lexus is more visceral and exciting and better balanced and more nimble.
Hatorade!

P.S. "...even though it weighed less.
" It weighs less but also has less power, genius (you spoke as if they both had the same hp, but the LFA was slower even though it weighed less).
The LFA is 400lbs lighter than the 599, but also has about 60hp less, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's a tiny hair slower in acceleration, but I have a feeling it'll kick the 599's butt on most tracks.

goddamn he's a good commentator
I wish Lexus didn't restrict this car to 500 copies. That kills it for me. It might as well not exist. They (Lexus) need to put out a real, honest, sports car. Give it 300-400 horsepower and do their best, no apologies needed, and they'd be on the map. With such a limited production and such a high price, the LFA is silly and not relevant.
Ford sold ~4000 GT's, and that car is on the map even if most enthusiasts will rarely see one. I've seen a few, or the same one a few times. But it's *real.* I've watched one on a road course the same day I was running, with no drama or press presence. Just another car in the hands of an enthusiast. Might as well be a caged Miata. I didn't go look at it because I didn't want to bother the guy.
Good luck with that with an LFA - the owner is going to call the press if no one else does, that's why they bought it. Every drive is an event rather than just another day in the life of a car. I'm not knocking the owners. It's the new Toyota 2000GT - a car amost nobody bought because almost nobody could. Way to hedge your bet, Toyota :/ Have some confidence, grow some balls again.
Chances are I'll never see a LFA outside a car show.
That's what kills it for me and removes it from relevance. It's a fantastic car, but it might as well be vaporware for not being seen outside car shows. Might as well be the Batmobile. Or a Veyron with half the power, or a Carrera GT with no street cred, or an Enzo copy from Korea. The performance is real, but the reality might as well be fantasy since you'll never see it and it's too rare to risk stuffing it.
PS:
As far as the price, Ford could sell the GT at the same weight, same power, but half the price. What exactly does Lexus offer that Ford cannot? Lexus doesn't have squat for racing heritage, doesn't have squat for credentials *period*, yet asks twice the price for the same kind of vanity project?
They ran an LFA version at Nurburgring during an endurance race, but as far as I can tell, it was to ensure they'd have no warrantee claims and develop a weak "race cred." I'm not saying Lexus could afford to sell the car for less, it's just weak they won't make more and demand such a premium purely for rarity, not performance or pedigree.
The car is that good. Too bad they can't deliver more cars and ask a more realistic price. It ends up like the NSX - a car only for people able to ignore the price/performance disparity.
Nice car though, no denying that.
