^^^

5.5 sec for 0-60 mph quoted in the article is really a shit*ty time for an E46 M3...I would take what's written in that Edmunds article with a grain of salt anyhow.

I had an normal M3 and my neighbor had an M3 with the competition package. Their biggest complaint was having to drive long distances without cruise control. The M-Track button sounds like a cool option but DSC in the E46 was pretty horrible.

my best friend just traded his '05 M3 comp for an '08 335i sedan (he needs 4 doors now).

he says it's junk compared to his M3 - he didn't mean it literally, but he had a huge laundry list of why the M3 was better.

i'll see if i can get him to give me the issues again.

Please get back with that list, I never considered the 335i because it was not an M model to begin with.

The posts by many the people here seem to feel that the ZCP (competition pkg) is a waste in comparison to a non-ZCP M3.

My next question is SMG transmission compared to the 6 speed manual, I feel the SMG would be more fun and practical for daily driving and track time.

here was mine:

the "competition" package is worthless imo. the only m3 worth differentiating is the csl which you can't buy here anyways.

i'd honestly get the newest cleanest m3 u can afford, and throw some real 19s and real adjustable coilovers on it.

Dude, c'mon... what "FACTS" ? if that's what Edmunds has to say, they they are officially a non-credible source in my book... i'll say it here, i have witnessed a stock 335 and a stock E46 M3 run, both owned by friends of mine, and the 335 keeps up off the line, but after a 100 MPH... the E46 M3 will clearly and distinctively pull ahead of the 335 Coupe... the reason is the better gearing...

iceman, for a guy who owns an s2000 you sure do love the straight line monkey racing comparisons

with that said, the straight line speed between the 335i and 46 m3 are so close, it's splittin hairs... like 2.0 v. 2.2

so you insisting on the straight line speed differences just makes you look like a hair splitter

i dont think anyone is arguing the fact that the M3 is un-deniably faster on a track... i was only refuting the argument made above that the 335 is cheaper and faster in a straight line than an E46 M3... where infact its not faster... to refute that, i had to utilize an example of straight line speed... you may call that hair splitting if you wish..
