Thumbs up Comprehensive insurance?

How do people feel about comprehensive on a bike? I ask because I'm getting a new bike and looking at new insurance quotes, and comp is $50/yr, which seems reasonable. In the past people told me not to bother with it considering how much it costs versus the price of a bike.

Thanks,

Comprehensive on a bike is mainly to cover theft I would think, so if the bike you are getting is desirable and/or worth more thank $5k I'd get it. Heck at $50 a year, why not? Saving $500 over the course of 10 years and having to worry about someone taking your bike just doesn't seem worth it to me.

i have comp on my bike i started with 1225 a year but that was with no exp.
i got a year exp and they dropped it to 30 bucks a month. i figured why not itll be on there forever because that way i dont have to worry about theft. thats the biggest thing

Well, I was skeptical about the price and called back, and sure enough, they priced the wrong bike - its more like $300/yr for full on top of $200 for liability, but that's with max limits.

Thanks for the feedback - I'll need to think about what to get.

Still $300/year x 10 years is $3k. I'd say it's worth it for piece of mind if your bike is worth $5k or more. Also take into account any deductible that might apply.

I decided to get it for my bike because it was very cheap (but so is my bike '00 sv650 with rebuilt title) and because I wanted to enjoy riding my bike anywhere I wanted to. So for example I don't want to have to worry about taking it to the mall or a movie theater for example; where it may sit unprotected in a parking lot for a couple hours. Not having to worry while I'm out enjoying myself is worth quite a bit to me. So even if I had a new Ducati and it cost $1k a year, I'd still bite since I figure I'd be enjoying the ride to and from all the more, making it worth it.

That's what I settled on - have it until the bike value drops some. Thanks for the replies.

I'm amazed at what it costs some of you for insurance. I have liability and comprehensive (not collision) on my '04 VFR800. I pay less than $75 for a year.

I am married, no tickets/accidents, and have had my MC license for 24 years. I'm sure that helps.
