No that was definatley MPH. The bike seemed to be a Honda CBR929, yellow/black wing of course, circa 2001
. A liter bike of this nature can EASILY hit those speeds in a surprisingly short amount of time. But even though the speedo read 170, he was probably only going 155 or so due to speedo error.
Look at the trees when he was going 110 or so and watch the tress go by when you put down the highway at 70 mph, big difference.

Bikes are notorious have having overly optimistic speedometers and odometers, usually by 5 or 10%. The RR and R1 are both in the 160MPH range, with the GSX-R1000 at around 170. Adding a slip-on or other tweaks to produce a few extra ponies will not help the top speed as it is more about aerodynamics then HP, but HP doesn't hurt.
Buy a recalibration device and you can make your speedometer read 25% higher or lower.
