Default At a crossroads...

Sup everyone, been a lurker for a long ass time and was planning on getting an S2000 for years. Decided to post up because recently I had to crash test my bike when some idiot decided to stop in the middle of traffic in the right hand lane to make a left. I was behind an SUV and sped up to pass on the right (couldn't see the car or the car behind it from where I was) and as soon as I came around, . I swerved to go around but the car I passed was right next to me, so I had to grab a bunch of front brake while still leaned cuz I was running out of space and hit the asphalt around 35-40. Bike flipped, and I just found out today that the damage is somewhere around $8500. I was definately planning on getting back on the horse but I didn't expect it to be totalled. I realized I was pretty damn lucky to not have a car run over me and I'm beginning to think I'd much rather take it to the track. I'm a student right now so I don't think that's such a good idea on the wallet but the 6 grand or so I'll get from the bike will allow me to sell my car and finally get the S2000. I realize the inherent dangers of riding a bike but it's such an awesome adrenaline rush... I just don't know how I can compare it to driving an S2000.

Decided the best place to post up was a bike forum on S2ki where folks would understand both sides of the game. What would you do if you had to choose between the bike or the s2k?

I only had a bike (05 600RR) for a year before I got my S2000, but now that I have both my bike sits around a lot. I would much prefer to own an S2000 over a bike anyday, but having both is a blessing. You can't really compare the two in terms of enjoyment because they are such different experiences.

As much as I love my bike, if I could only have one or the other then it would have to be the S2000.

If you want both then really, you need both. I use my S2000...DeLorme State Atlas on passenger seat....to learn routes in areas I'm not familiar with so I can ride them later on my motorcycle and lead day-rides from memory.

Given your recent history? Get the car. You'll live longer. You're getting too much adrenaline rush in traffic.

Sweet deal you got going on there. Unfortunately, that's definately not an option for me right now as my budget will only allow one. I know it's pretty much a sin to be asking it but I'm pretty interested in what you guys who own both would do if you had to choose either the bike or the s2000...
See my post above

I'm fortunate enough to not have to choose now

I won't live without a bike (at least while I'm employed!). I am living without my S2K. But you need to decide for yourself how much "motorcycling" is a part of your life.

-can you ride all year round (weather) security for the bike (garage)?
-i really would not consider a bike unless i had a place to work on it?
-actually i would get rid of both but don't know enough of the situation.

getoff:
i did the same thing to myself, no big. dead plastics, were covered from previous whatever. dead instrument cluster replaced via ebay. a local peep did some welding on the frame, $40. i was wearing jacket, helmet, boots... and was in good shape. shiz happens and when its your time i dont think it matters if your on the bike or in the car. fix the bike for cheep and go on.

i had a 15min work commute, most of the time it is like a hour, and someone ran a red light to t-bone me in a wrangler. i think they were doing >50mph.

Take the money and go to an MSF course because you did some dangerous, stupid riding right there.
