If you really think about it, the Mugen Si was created to test the waters in the US for a "future Type-R". But because the popularity/price tag of the Mugen Si was not appealing to the American eye, we might not even see a FWD Type-R (ie CTR/ITR)

I always saw threads on the Mugen Si being so overpriced, but the same people have complained for years about how it's dumb they won't bring a Type R over here which would be more or less the same bang-for-the-buck increase over the standard SI/Type S Honda does offer.
