I don't recall this being discussed much.

Earlier models just had a plastic rear window. I think in 2002 they switched to glass (which I own a 2002). Later models also have a slightly larger engine (2.2 liter instead of 2.0) for more torque and slightly better low rpm pull, and also have 17 inch tires instead of 16 inch. Not to mention the front and rear bumpers, lights, and grille were given a more aggreesive look. The older models have slightly sharper/crisper turn in, but the newer models are more stable and less likely to slide the tail out unexpectedly (more planted).

Other than that, test drive and see which you prefer.

newest models have traction control and MOST IMPORTANT side airbag sensor (deactivation) so small children can ride in the front.

The older ones like mine you can't easily disable the airbag and is not advised to have small children in the car.

In addition to the larger engine from 04+ the gear ratio or tranny ratio was revised somewhat.

If I was getting one I would probably look at the one with traction control and airbag switch.
