Default LSD for S2k

Hey all.

New to the S2k, and I hear that it has weak Diffs.

Ok i'm not that great with car mechanical stuff. I leave it all with my mechanics.

So when people say "Diffs" Do they mean LSD? And if I was to buy LSD is it just that one small part with lots of bolts and would that help with the common "s2k Diff" problems? OR am I mising something?

Thanks all.

I believe the housing itself is more of the weak point then the LSD itself. After the housing it's the ring and pinion. Just trying to remember off the top of my head, hopefully someone chimes in with more info or corrects me if I'm wrong.

If you are just driving on the street, the stock limited slip differential ("diff") should be plenty sufficient. The people that tend to have complaints are those who frequently track or autocross their car. Repeated hard launches will also decrease the longevity of your diff.

Thanks heaps for the replies!

Yeah I will be sliding the baby everynow and den, and doing launches as well.

I don't mind spending money on it, as long as I buy what I "need", as in I don't want to go and buy half of what I need, then find out that I need this other half of the piece to actually do a proper replacement...if you get me ><

Was thinking of getting a 1.5 way, but yeah don't know what's involved.

Thanks again.

The main problem is the housing. It stresses easily under hard driving situations.
Our LSD is a Type B Torsen, which does not wear rapidly due to its use of parallel gears, compared to the clutch type LSD.
Every LSD has its advantages. Quaife LSD's and Torsen LSD's are both gear type but yet they act very differently. Same goes for the clutch type LSD's.
If you are serious about an LSD then do some research about them and which one will suit your driving style and how hard you drive.
If this is for a hard driven street car then a reinforced housing should be good, but while your at it you might as well get a new ring and pinion to manipulate your torque curve. Good luck and do a bit of research about rear end failures and you can find out if you need to upgrade.

Thanks man.

So it looks to me I should worry about the housing for now. I'll research more before buying an LSD though for now.

Thanks man =]

With a FR car I'd go with the 2 way LSD, usually 1.5 ways are seen on 4WD.. but that's just me

does going to a higher ratio gear set reduce the load on the pinion?
