Discuss: s2000 vs e36 m3
My best S2000 yet, and by a pretty wide margin!
I still love my M3, and still consider it one of, if not the, best all-around cars on the market. It's a real car that can cover everything from track time to commuting to family hauling to road trips w/ ease. But it has a permanently attached roof, is a lot heavier, and you'll risk going to jail if you stomp on the gas very long. I look at the S and my old Miata as more of toys.
Nice Chris! I didn't see any recent posts about you shopping, but I recall a few months ago you mentioned considering another S2K.
Sometimes I think if/when we get to the point where we need two 4 seaters, just keeping the S and adding an M3 sedan or IS-F is an interesting option (vs. my alternate plan I've been considering, selling the S and adding an M3 convertible).
We drove the S to the TPC yesterday and it was a blast as usual. Perfect day and among all the pretty nice rides I saw that day, the S still looked as good and got plenty of double-takes and thumbs up.

Neither are collectible cars, they made tons of both models. You can check on local craigslist and find 5 for sale in any given city within 50 miles.
E36 M3 was the first real performance car I drove. I have always wanted one and will probably get one some day. But I'm not going to give up the S2000 in order to get one.
Both are special cars and I'd like to think in separate leagues. The S2000 is a roadster built ground-up with sporty intentions and is more invovling when you fling it around a corner. The M3 on the other hand will make you feel like you are the best driver out there. It is a popular choice for club racing and it has become increasingly rare to find one that is in original condition. Needless to say it is a BMW, so there are bound to be gremlins popping up occassionally.

If your asking what car you should buy then of course the s2k. So much fun and convertible = double the joy!
In terms of cornering... to be honest I dont think a lot of cars comes close to the cornering performance of the S.

If your asking what car you should buy, then of course the S without a doubt. It is so much fun driving this thing! PLUS the convertible = double the joy!
In terms of cornering, IMO not a lot of cars comes close to the cornering performance of the S

E36 M3 and S2000 are both collectible cars that I wish to have under my roof. If you have the money, buy both!
I chose the S2000 only because it's cheaper to mod and maintain.

You should get out and drive more cars!
