Drove an NSX

Let me throw in that the NSX is on the short list of cars I'd trade my S2000 for, but now that Comptech is out of business my dreams of a supercharged NSX are far fetched.

I don't think they've made a formal announcement but "word on the web" is that they're shutting their doors.

They weren't cost restricted in any way. They were BUILT NSX's by various tuners. Again, I'm not saying that their comparisons are always perfect, but rather I'm just throwing it out there.

A supercharger for an NSX will run you about $10K installed. You can get one for an S2000 for $4000-$5000. Headers are about three times more expensive and an exhaust is at least twice as expensive.
I'm with you, though. Supercharged NSX is a dream car to me. I still think it's one of the best sounding cars in the world (only the F355 and Carrera GT sound better to me).

No, I meant that maybe it was more about how it's more popular (and profitable) to tune cars that a large number of people can afford vs. modifying one that only a few can afford.

I test drove a 1996 NSX the other day. I liked it, but was surprised at how much it disappointed me. Compared to my S2000, it felt big and less controlled. The shifting was inferior as was the steering. It felt like work to drive.
On the other hand, the look is phenomenal as is the driving position. The engine note is to die for. The car certainly feels exotic (with all the drawbacks that entails too).
My point is that the S2000 compares very favorably. I feel my car is much more predictable and razor sharp. Perhaps a newer NSX would have been more appealing...

You have the additional weight of the roof panel, the lack of additional chassis strenghtening (of the coupe and later of the 1997+) and you have the 3.0L motor.
I loved both of my S2Ks and maintain that the old 2.0L motor made one of the best roadsters I've ever driven (and an incredible value). But other than the awesome headlights of the S2K, there's almost nothing that I prefer to my NSX.
But... I am certain that in most autocross courses the shorter wheelbase and smaller size of the S2K would make it very, very tough to beat. On a bigger course, with sweeping turns, no comparison.
Agreed. I have driven a 2000 NSX, which was a more enjoyable car to drive. I also want one, purely for the visceral aspect of it. My point was that the S2000 is very tight and tossable in a easy way that the NSX was not. An 11 year old car with 60,000 is still an older car, no matter what kind it is.
