Default evo x sst tranny

if i were to keep the stock turbo but get a tune and some cams and bolt ons and be running around 350-400whp would the sst tranny get destroyed or could it handle the power just as good as the 5 spd gsr.

read up on EvoM and socalevo and norcalevo, all .net's

HP doesn't kill the tranny, not as much as torque. IIRC the MR is recommended to stay around 300-330wtq. not 100% sure though.

as for versus the 5spd, the 5spd is definitely stronger.

I highly doubt you'd see 350whp on the sst reliably. Again, as stated before the limitations are with the high torque the car will put down not necessarily hp. Most tuners won't recommend going higher than 350whp on the stock sst tranny. I heard they're trying to develop a clutch pack upgrade on the sst fo higher tq output but I haven't heard much. Besides, why pay the extra money for parts and labor on a boring auto tranny car to begin with.

With the gsr, you're only limited by the stock clutch. Upgrade the clutch accordingly and power potential should be unlimited.

Check out evoxforums.com. They have a forum specifically geared towards addressing the SST.

yah, i was cruising the evo forums and thats why i came up with this. its the gsr vs mr. im all about a true manual but as a daily driver i like the idea of the sst. also, the mr comes with better interior, brakes, wheels, and im sure it doesnt stop there. in the end im sure its better just but the gsr and get some coilovers, better brakes, and buy the rims and youll have saved more money.

I thought a lot of people were addressing this issue with aftermarket transmission coolers.

oops yea forgot to mention evoxforums.com

the MR also comes with 20-30whp less than the GSR IIRC?

i apologize i don't know much about the MR since the auto tranny took it off the list for me instantly. i didn't even accept an offer from the dealership to test drive it...but it is no doubt a very fun daily driver

Transmission cooler has nothing to do with the torque limit on the clutch packs. The clutch within the SST cannot hold down the extra torque...it slips after said amount of power.
