Default Factory Five MK3/4 Cobra

First off - I never drove neither FF nor any other Cobra roadster replicas. But I've been in love with this car for long long time now.
It seems like I would have to sell S for something more practical (Xterra most likely) and build MK4 to be my only weekend car. As much as I admire S I won't be able to justify keeping 'similar' in the sense of use cars. And so I wonder - does anybody here own one of these? or building it at the moment.. so far going over 'build' threads @http://www.ffcars.com/

Here is more context to somebody who hears about FF for the first time: FF MK4

I have a friend who built one of these with his dad. They got it done in pretty much one summer. They were really happy with the kit and had a lot of fun with the easy customization that was possible. They went with a lot of special coatings and some easy sheet metal custom work around the engine bay and interior. I don't remember what motor they went with Chevy or Ford but it was a junkyard find rebuilt and new carbs. I loved watching their progress he posted up to his albums.

That would be ultimate to build it with my dad. Thanks for sharing. Do you happen to have link to his album that you can share?
I was at roadsters show last weekend here in Pomona and saw few Cobras one was with new Coyote 5.0 - pretty sweet setup and considering you can get crate engines or even from wrecked mustang for very decent price - that seems pretty good way to go. Wonder how they drive though.. I don't care about speed or anything like that - but whole experience driving car like this - that's what matters to me.

Would these be registered as 2012 models? They'd have to be smogged then, right?

Read this article, and if it sounds like fun, I think you should do it. If I had the time and the means, I'd have a hard time choosing between a FF and a Locost 7.

I think (not positive) that depending on the state you might be able to register the built car as the used Mustang you scavanged to build it, if you took that route.

My friend/next door neighbor built one in his garage about 10 years ago. It took him several months, but I don't recall any big stumbling blocks. He bought an old wrecked Mustang for donor car parts (mainly engine, tranny, and rear end IIRC).

I drove it, and it was fast, light, and visceral - def. a fun ride, if not very practical. He raced it w/ some success w/ NASA, but his wife got him to move on to racing "real" cars due to safety concerns. He still owns it, and it looks like new.
