Default FD experts! Help.

Alright so for a little while now, I've had a project in my mind, just curious if this is even going to be possible.

Without money being a factor or fab work, etc....:

Is it possible to swap the F20+drivetrain into the rx7 FD shell??

I've seen it done on the FB..

Someone shed some light on this for me..

Thanks

Yes, it's doable. A local shop here (National Speed) is currently working on/finishing up a swap (turbo F20C).

I've seen a K20 swapped into a FD before, but it was mounted vertically like a F20

this is basically, exactly what I'm looking to do. I can't get over the exterior of the FD and I can't get over the performance of the s2k. Done deal for me.

I would very much enjoy an F22C or SR22VET powered FD RX7. Dowant. Wish there were more info out there and premade motor mounts.

Both would negate the front-midship layout though, sadly.

It's alright with me. I just want the f20 power plant in the FD. Ultimate monster.

That such a swap wouldn't meet some misguided, arbitrary definition of "front mid-engine" means little/nothing regarding actual balance/handling/feel. "Front mid-engine" is misleading terminology, born in a marketing department. Yes, it is a good idea to have the engine situated well aft in an FR performance car. But that doesn't mean that anything magical happens if the forwardmost part of the engine is behind front wheel centerline. F20C/F22C in an FD would be brilliant, and would probably be a little lighter than stock with the same 48/52 F/R distribution with driver and fuel.

As people already mentioned, it's been done. I've had 2 Rx7s and wouldn't run anything but a 13b in them *shrug*.

Rotary ftw.
