It would be an interesting race between a ZR1 and a 420 rwhp single turbo, race prepped FD, esp on a tighter track. You might be surprised how close it would be. "Destroyed"? Not a chance in hell.

2007,

That looks like a decent track car... for a road legal car. Plenty of cars "less than" a GT3 could easily beat it on a track.

If it was road legal, it isn't a track god. Well maybe to a fanboi...

A track day toy that can be had for about the same price as the RX-7 yet would have no trouble beating it on the track.

well I don't want to pee in anybody's cheerios but in a certain miata thread you were quite adamant about only comparing cars that were prepped to the same extent.

So shouldn't we compare a race prepped corvette to keep it fair?

In all seriousness, it all really boils down to who did the tuning.

I have seen so many cars with all of the parts in the world thrown at them which completely fail at being fast around a race track.

If we are talking about an FD that is tuned by someone that knows what they are doing vs. a stock zr-1, my money would be on the FD any day of the week.

A perfect example would be what seems to happen every so often in the Redline Time Attack series. Most of the cars raced in this series are tuner jobs done by higher end rice shop. while many of these cars are fast as hell, they are not dialed in as well as they could be.

There is 350z (the name of the race team escapes me) that is ran in the Grand Am series. It is tuned by professionals. When they bring it out to play in the Redline Time Attack, they are down by a couple hundred hp to most of their competitors, they have more conservative aero, less tire, etc, yet they are only marginally slower than the fastest bazillion hp cars out there.
