First Car Help!
Alright guys well I'm in the market for a 1st car.
Of course I'd love to buy a s2000, but I don't think I can realistically get one for under 10k dollars.
Any suggestions on what would be a good, quick alternative? Well that is if I want to go the sporty car route.
I also like the Jeep Cherokee and Wrangler because I think they would be fun cars, and I would like the room for boards, and such.
Thanks Alot Guys, and what do you think i should do!!

whatever you get, only spend 2/3 your budget on the car itself. Save the rest for tires, brakes, shocks, and other repairs. Contrary to what people claim, no car goes 100,000 miles without needing maintanence/repairs.
Get a Cherokee if you like them. They're fine vehicles that need maintenance like all the rest. You don't need 4WD if that puts a clean one out of your price range. Good tires renders 4WD redundant for all but serious off-roading, and you don't off-road in your only vehicle. RWD and decent truck tires are all you need for fire roads, dirt trails, etc., and not having 4WD to fall back on will make you a better off road driver to boot. Just carry a garden rake, shovel, tow strap, and come-along in case you get stuck.
The nice thing about a Cherokee is even the 4 bangers have an easy time getting out of ditches and other tough spots due to the high ground clearance and basic design. The biggest knock on the I6 is mileage, but any first car is going to tax your resources.
There's plenty of time for a sporty car.

How old are you? Jeeps are great vehicles. In highschool my best friend had one and loved it. I had a porsche 944. That jeep picked up girls more than the porsche. It was a fun do it all vehicle. There are some down sides to a jeep, they are often cold (if you live in a cold climate) the are loud on the interior even with a hardtop and steel doors. They are easy to break into, get crappy gas mileage, handle like a sherman tank.
Every vehicle has faults, but a jeep despite it's fault is one of a kind fun and hence why it lives on while others who try to copy it but change the original plan fade away.

Nothing wrong with a Jeep as long as you keep the rubber side down. s2000raj made some very good points above. If you want a sporty car in that price range you can find plenty of very nice Miata's that fit the bill. Don't allow yourself to get hung up on it being a girly car. There's a reason it's the most popular racecar in the USA. It's also IMO a much better car to learn "Sportscar driving" than the S2000. It's more forgiving, less powerful, and has slightly lower limits. Those are good things as learning tools. In fact after years of tracking cars from CRX's, S2000's, Corvette's, Porsche's, Viper's, Sports Racer's, and Formula Car's the Miata can still make me grin when I drive it. I would be happy to have another one in my garage.
a 2002-2003 wrx wagon can be had for around that price. yes, i did say wagon. of course you can always get the 4dr sedan and install a roof rack of some sort to hold the boards. i've seen it done before.
