Seems like a lot vitriolic feelings concerning the CR. Oh well, it wasn't intended for the average owner or driver. Whether the CR becomes highly collectable won't be driven by S2KI members, but by collectors of Japanese cars. The same one's that snatch up unique, low production road or race cars of Datsun, Toyota and Mazda. This will be the next highly collectable car segment for the foreseeable future, just a FYI.

I feel like unmolested and low mileage 08-09 GPW with red interior will do just as well as the CR in the long run...

Better as a thing to drive. Worse as a collectible. I don't think any of the regular S2000s will be collectible at least not for many years.

Like I said before, among USDMs the CR is top dog and rare. If any S2000 will collectible soon that's it.

If the s2000 is collectible, which is the most collectible? The cr. Thus the reason why it's going up in price. Collectors with pockets will seek out the best conversation starter. Look at how muscle car people hunt down certain option packages which make them all the more valuable. It's all about the vin and condition. It doesn't have to make sense at the time, like how people hated the corvette split window in 63 and wanted the normal window of the 64, and now the 63 is the most desireable.

I'd argue s2000s are already collectible, take a look at what lower mileage good condition cars go for, those cars are not depreciating anymore.

They aren't fetching the original 32K+ sticker where as some cars like a 4.0RS GT3 are fetching more than 2X the original sticker, THAT to me signals collectible.

Some of that pricing is attributable to collectors of the air cooled Porsches. Even the once lowly 356 series is now sought after along with early VW bug/Vans. I think in the case of GT3 buyers they are trying to stay "ahead of the curve" pricing wise betting they increase.

ITRs are fetching $20K-$25K nowadays for low mileage, clean examples. Or $34k for really nice examples

Considering CRs are going for $32K-ish, I don't doubt their asking price increasing.
