Default Focus ST Thoughts

I am once again thinking of selling my AP1. I hardly drive it anymore and I am finding it too harsh when I do. I've had it over 10 years and feel like it might be time for something completely different with a bit more DD capability and luxury. A local dealer has a fully loaded ST and talked them down to 25k with 0 %. I'm wondering if anyone on the board has one or has an experience with one. I plan on checking it out tomorrow.

The Focus ST package seems great on paper. For reference my other cars are a C6 LS3 and Tacoma with no kids now or in the future.

Thought? opinions? Am I crazy just considering....

Thanks!!!

I've really liked the ST ever since it debuted... they are a great all around package. I think you should drive your AP1 over to go check out the ST, take the ST for a spin, then take another ride in your S2K back home to weigh your options. I like being able to compare my current ride vs. whatever I'm considering buying to see how they stack up against each other. The ST will have the "new" factor to it but I've found that if I stay level headed and weigh my options, I generally make the right choice.

Good luck, I don't think you can really go wrong with either... but I do think you'll lose some of the connected/go kart feeling you have in the S with the ST, in addition to other obvious things like RWD, drop top, raw driving experience vs. more driver assists, etc.

Personally... I'd be more inclined to keep the AP1 and just add a cheaper hatchback to the stable. Maybe a 4-5 year old Mazda 3 hatch?

W/ a C6 and Tacoma, no kids, and living where you'll never see snow, why not just sell the S2000 and not replace it? C6 seems like it would be a perfectly good DD.

I checked out the Focus. It's fun and quick, but the Recaros were uncomfortably tight to me, and their forums seem to indicate more than their fair share of reliability issues.

Living in Southern California and not having a convertible seems like insanity to me.

Thank you for the feedback. A few things that are drawing me to the focus. I drove a diesel titanium model in Europe and I adored the car. The ride was suberb and felt quite upscale to me. I still reflect on how impressed I was even after a year The Focus ST has a ton of nice amenities that I feel as I get older are becoming more important. The price is very reasonable for a new car (never bought new) and 0 % apr is like I'd be paying cash for it.

I do not track cars and I gave up street racing. 90% of my driving is commuting or hauling my surfboard to the beach. The C6 does make good daily DD especially since it has mag suspension and is an A6 but I'm still missing the new technology that the Focus can provide. C6 is also a targa which is almost as good as having a true vert. I was never planning on keeping the S2000 after the C6 but would miss it so I did.

Part of me says by going into the hot hatch segment I wouldn't need to get a "better S2000" and spend 40-50k on a Cayman S etc. The car is so different in a good way. Been scouring the boards and reviews, and on paper it seems like an amazing car, but don't want to be like so much of us that regrets selling the S and comes back 6 months later..

That's my rant lol

I find the exterior and interior both atrocious looking. (Its shallow, but appearances matter)

On that opinion alone I would never even consider the car.

If you like ford and want cheaper, the fiesta has more appealing design and should be a better drive owing to the lessened weight.

If you want a different, more upscale car, the 220hp gen 7 Gti is the way to go. Had a fully loaded gen 6 manual and, as large as the spot in my heart reserved for the ap2 s2k, arguably the Gti was my favorite.

My coworker keeps telling me how wonderful the MK7 (lighter, more rigid, and more power) is but I'm a little put off that the new one is going to be built in Mexico vice Germany. I should drive a GTI though before making my decision and ya a fiesta is 2800 lbs and would be a hoot to drive!
