Ford has been working on bringing a turbocharged engine to market for some time, and it now appears the Blue Oval is preparing roll out not one, but a set of twin-turbo engines employing what it calls "twin-force" technology. Ford plans on using the technology on four, six, and possibly eight cylinder engines. The first application will reportedly be seen on the new Lincoln MKS due next year, with more vehicles sporting the engines over the next few years.
In addition to the turbochargers, the engines will also use direct injection technology and will achieve fuel economy levels comparable to diesel engines, according to Ford vice president for global product development Derrick Kuzak. The technology was first seen earlier this year on the Lincoln MKR concept, which had a twin-turbo version of Ford's 3.5-liter V-6 under the hood. Expect to see the MKS get something similar.
Kuzak also said that Ford is developing a new dual clutch, six-speed automatic, dubbed Powershift, which is similar to Volkswagen's DSG, along with variable displacement V-8 engines.
We're not sure that adding a pair of turbochargers and direct-injection technology will help the new engines achieve diesel-like mileage numbers, but they will likely be more fuel efficient than Ford's comparable offerings on the market today.

One important note is that in this posting Ford says, "We're not sure that adding a pair of turbochargers and direct-injection technology will help the new engines achieve diesel-like mileage numbers".
In the other thread people seemed to indicate that Ford was claiming Diesel mileage with these new powertrains.
